The goal of life for every christian

“….so that you may be matured and complete and lack in nothing.” (James 1:4)

That is the essence of all teachings of the Bible. That should be the goal of life for every Christian. We must see to it that we lack in nothing. We must make it as our prime interest to mature in spiritual life. It is not enough to be saved. It is very good and necessary for us to be born again but it should not be the ultimate goal of our life. That is only the beginning of our long journey.
So many Christian teachers, leaders and preachers teach and make people believe that being born again is the only goal of our life. They sound as though there is nothing more to look forward to or to try for, after being born again. That is the height of spiritual ignorance. Being born into God's family is necessary of course but that is not the end of the race. The present Scripture tells us that we must mature. We must mature in every area of our spiritual life. We must mature in faith, love and in forgiving spirit and we must mature in knowledge of Holy Scriptures and so on…
We must be lacking in nothing. If only we have kept this in our minds, we will not be criticizing each other and hating each other. If we must reach the spiritual peak where we lack in nothing, we must consistently strive towards the goal. It takes a lot of patience, constant concentration and commitment to achieve that goal. The growth into perfection is not so easy. We have to sacrifice many worldly pleasures for the sake of it. We have to loose many profitable things to accomplish the goal.
Above all, we need the help of the Holy Spirit in this struggle. No one can mature and become perfect without the help of the Holy Spirit. It is important that we do not reject God's precious gift called the Holy Spirit. We must accept the gift called the Holy Spirit. Only then can we mature into spiritual perfection.
Once we undertake the all important journey into spiritual maturity, we become so busy with our spiritual activity that the devil would find it difficult to tempt us and lead us into sin. Those who are not spiritually busy will be more available to devil. Let us make it our goal and the prime interest of our life to become perfect in our spiritual life. Whether we have health or not, whether we posses wealth or not, we must become spiritually mature and perfect. If there is no spiritual perfection in us then all the health and wealth we posses will surely lead us deeper into sin. May the Lord give us wisdom to have the right order of priorities in our life! May the Lord give us the wisdom to have spiritual perfection as the goal of our life! Amen!!
