“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34, KJV)
The
book of Proverbs presents many eternal truths before us. These
principles are timeless. They are applicable to every generation and
every situation. King Solomon tells us under the guidance of the Holy
Spirit that righteousness exalts a nation. Not only a nation but it
exalts individuals as well. Whether it is an individual or a nation,
righteousness always brings exaltation and honour. The world is full of
sin but the world always honours righteousness. The worldly people may
secretly hate a righteous person but outwardly they have to pretend that
they are respecting that person.
Though
the world is full of sinners, it insults and humiliates a person when
he/she is caught in sin. If we live in sin, we must be mentally prepared
to face humiliation sooner or later. That is an eternal principle and
that cannot be changed. So, we must put forth every effort to live a
righteous and upright life. We must stay away from every kind and form
of sin.
We,
Christians, are taught that God is gracious and forgives sin. It is
true of course. The holy God will forgive our sin, but the sinful world
will not! That is the reason St Paul tells us to abstain from all
appearance of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:22, KJV)
Joseph
is the best example God has set up to teach us this lesson. Joseph was a
righteous person. He ran away from fornication. For the time being he
was falsely accused and was imprisoned but ultimately the imprisonment
led him to the throne! In the long run only honesty, sincerity, hard
work and righteousness will pay. In the first place we must receive
Christ as our personal Saviour and be cleansed by His precious blood.
Then we must practice righteous conduct to the best of our ability. That
is the only way we can avoid humiliation in this world and the world to
come. Let us make a fresh covenant with the Lord that we will be more
serious hereafter to walk uprightly and seek the help of Holy Spirit to
do so. May God help you and exalt you in due time. Have a nice day. God
bless you!
